A story from the streets
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm my dad's pet
I am born. I cry. I am employed.
At the central city roundabout.
A privileged address in our circles.
I wake up. I cry. I am hungry. I am employed.
I report to my boss.
My creator. My master. My dad.
The savvy employer of a dozen wee employees.
His HR is perfect.
The production rate is steady.
He never runs out of little hands with little bowls.
I wake up. I've grown up. I am two. I am hungry.
I work. He cries. He is born. He is employed.
My dadís new lad.
He is lucky. A window rolls down.
A coin spins his way.
His first earning.
Our boss is pleased.
Tonight heíll manufacture
Another new employee.
At the central city roundabout.
A privileged address in our circles.

At least eighteen million children live or work on the streets of urban India,
the largest population of street children in the world.
Often, itís their own parents who create them to have extra hands to earn and to beg.
